Re: Grid background

OK - Got it  So – at the sort of scales and units I use If I set the scale to 1:10, units to mm, set the grid to 100mm with 4 divisions (25mm each) and set the Snap grid to 5mm, I can snap to the main grid lines and the four division lines. That's because the Snap to grid figure (5mm in thi...

Re: Grid background

Ah - that would explain why I couldn't make it do that!! If you can't snap to the divisions, I don't really understand why you would use them at all? Because of what I do, designing yachts mainly, I don't use a grid anyway, so I've never really got familiar with it – either with old Claris, or with ...

Re: Grid background

Eric - could you explain how the Divisions in the grid work coupled with the Snap grid in Preferences. I can't seem to work it out!

Re: Grid background

1. In Window >> Layers/Pages, set the scale to 1/48 2. In Preferences >> General set "Unit of the drawing" to one of the US units (Decimal inches, Decimal feet, fractional inches or fractional feet and inches) 3. Set "Snap to grid" to the distance you want to be away from a grid line for Snap to wor...

Re: Zero

Hi Eric Ok - I can do it!! x=0, y=0 is top left of the window. My XX and YY lines are at x = 1201.2083, y = 1719.7917 So to set my XX to -3700 and my YY to +150 I have to add 3700 to the x-position and subtract 150 from the y-position Screenshot 2020-08-12 at 16.53.44.png And that does it Screenshot...

Re: Zero

Gosh Eric - I can't make it work – perhaps I'm doing something wrong. If I click the ┼ and leave the default x=0, y=0 I get this, quite correctly. Clicking on XX, shows x = 579.4375 in the Edit panel. And the Rulers agree Screenshot 2020-08-10 at 13.39.30.png If I click the ┼ and drag it to the inte...

Re: Zero

Hi Eric Well I suppose the easiest (for the user) in some ways would be when you drag the ┼ at the top left of the rulers. Perhaps it could have a little dialogue come up: x = y = With default values of 0, but you would be able to enter values as well. And then when you dragged over to the intersect...

Re: Symmetry

Hi Eric Yes I see that 4.9 kept horizontal text horizontal and the right way up whatever Symmetry you did, but when it was at an angle other than about a horizontal line, the text got separated from the objects, so had to be adjusted anyway. I guess v.5 is better in that respect and you end up with ...

Re: Symmetry

Hi Eric

In v.4.9 etc Symmetry was perfect – it didn't turn text upside down. This has only happened in v.5.

Here's the same thing in v.4.93

I can't really think that one would want to turn text upside down very much.

Symmetry

Hi Eric

Something I've just noticed with version 5

If you use the Symmetry with axis tool text goes upside down like this:

It used not to – text used to stay the right way up!
