Eric I think that:

In the first instance the edit field for the text should not be able to get wider than the drawing – so on a single page drawing it would be limited to the right hand edge of the page (assuming left to right text entry). And on a multiple-page drawing it would be limited to the right hand edge of the right hand page. And if you start entering text very near the right hand side of the drawing, you simply get a very short edit field – and probably move the block of text altogether.

Once you have entered your block of text you can adjust the width as now – either by dragging the handles or by entering a number in the dx box. But never wider than the drawing (or single page)

And once a width is set for a block of text, if you add more text, edit it, etc. etc., then the width should stay the same at the set width, both when you are typing and when you've finished. Unless of course you subsequently change the width (handles or dx box).

Does that make sense?

Best - George

PS - that's pretty much how ClarisCAD worked and that always seemed quite good. Claris also had other text options – Shadow and Outline (which I never really thought were particularly useful) and Line Space control (Single, Double and Custom by points) – which was occasionally slightly useful. And Justified text – which really didn't work very well as it merely spaced the words, not the kerning, so it tended to produce some odd results!

Thank you George, I will try to do like that!

Cordialement.

Downloaded and using it! Text seems great now. Much easier to manage.

Cheers -- George
