RealCADD and iPocket Draw

Eric,

I often need to extend a line to a point. I know that I can option/drag around one end to select the end point, but it asks for a dimension. I don't know that dimension. I want to grab the selected endpoint, and simply drag it to where I want it. Can it be done? Or, if I draw a new line from the end of the existing line to my new endpoint, can they be merged into a single line, not grouped?

Why not simply select the line and then take it on the handle you want and extend it with the mouse ?
It will not more time consuming than any other method.

Hi Mike!

You can drag an end point to snap to something else – just grab it and drag to an End, Centre or Intersection – or to exactly hit another line – see next.

You can drag an end point to extend a line at the same angle – hold down the Option/Alt key while you drag. If you want to hit another line exactly, then as you drag (holding down the Option/Alt key), a little "S" icon appears when you are exactly on the second line (you have to have "I" selected in the Snap pallet)

Holding down the Shift key drags the end point so that the line is one of the specific angles (set in preferences).

You can also enter the end co-ordinates (x2 and y2) of the line in the Edit pallet - type "= nnnn" in the x2 and y2 boxes, but that's not usually very helpful, unless you are working on co-ordinates in your drawing, which most people aren't. Using "=" enters an absolute co-ordinate rather than an alteration to the existing one.

I tried that, but it moved the line, not just the end, so then, the gap was on the other end. What did I do wrong?

If the line moves, it is probably because you don't select it before.

1)
- The line is NOT selected and Arrow tool is selected
- I move the Arrow near one of the ends of the line
- The cursor changes to Attraction to the vertex
- Then I can click to take the line exactly on this point and MOVE IT

2)
- The line is SELECTED and Arrow tool is selected
- I move the Arrow near one of the ends of the line
- The cursor changes to Attraction to the vertex
- Then I can click to take the line exactly on this point and EXTEND IT

It is exactly the same with iPocket Draw.

Glad that's settled!!

But don't forget that Option/Alt will extend it at exactly the angle it currently is – while Shift will extend it at one of the preset angles (in preferences)
