Chamfer and Fillet

Post by debenriver »

Hi Eric

Is it possible to improve the directional action of chamfer and fillet??

For example, as shown below, if I drag from A to B, I get a fillet from C to B:

In this example, of the four options, only a drag from B to C or A to D produces a fillet where I want it

The only way to ensure that the fillet is where I drag is to cut the two lines first like this and then I get the filet where I want it:

It's the same for chamfers.

I realize it's to do with the directions the lines are drawn in – so in the example, if I drew the lines from left to right and top to bottom, the dragging A to B produces a fillet from A to B – and B to C produces a fillet from B to C but the other two options don't work!

I don't remember this being a problem in earlier versions????

Cheers -- George

Bonjour George,

Yes theoretically, the chamfer or the fillet must be on the side of the red line.
And you are right, it is not the case.
I think that it is a new bug...
Thanks, I will it.

Cordialement.

OK George, I will post shortly a new beta to fix this problem.

A workaround is to draw the (red) line in attraction on the ends.

Right – yes that works. And if you turn "Display Attraction names" on, it works from the centre/middle as well.

But on boat drawings, lines tend to be rather long – often a line drawn parallel to the centreline or datum waterline to construct other things, so the ends and even the centres are often a long way away! So cutting the lines is an easier option.

But it will be nice when you can fix it properly :D

Hello Eric

I have just bought and tried V 5.01. It is excellent.

I have the same difficulty with line direction and placement of chamfer/fillet. How may I get the fix for chamfer/fillet indicated in V 5.02b5? I don't see a way to update directly through application.

Bonjour GeorgeK,

Thank you for your appreciation of RealCADD.
The last beta version is now b6.
You have to download it manually :RealCADD 5.02b6
It is a Mac version.
If you use RealCADD on Windows, say me.
There is no way to update RealCADD directly through the app.
Perhaps, I can add a check on the version number to inform the user that a new version is available.
But this will be active only for official version not beta versions.

Cordialement.

Thank you Eric.

I have a MAC but I prefer to use official version. I can manage placement of chamfer/fillet by setting up line directions in advance.

Do you plan to migrate the beta fix to the official version? If yes, can you provide an estimate of when?

GeorgeK,

I will add the check of the version number and I update the official version.
Probably in one or two weeks.

Thanks
