Bonjour,

This new beta version is available.

George, I made some other modifications for the slowdown.

I had also removed preferences for dimensions and constrained angles from general preferences.

Cordialement.

Hi Eric

I was about to post to say that 5.71b3 seems to have done it – at least no slow down so far! :D

Of course I did what you shouldn't do and changed several things at once – upgraded to OS 26.1 from 15.7; launched the new RealCADD version; made tools auto-retract and positioned on the left. So I don't know which did it. At least I can easily move the Tools pallet and set it to not auto-retract.

I assume that Dimensions' and Constrained Angles' preferences will come back somewhere?

I'll try 5.71b4 shortly, but I'll work on a bit longer with b3 as it's going so well!

Cheers and many thanks -- George

George,

I removed the Dimensions and Constrained Angles preferences from general preferences because they are available from the tools.
2 ways for the same thing is too much I think.

Thanks.
Cordialement.

Hi Eric

Well I've been using v5.71b3 for quite a while now and it hasn't slowed down :D

The only thing I've noticed to slow fairly marginally is changing line types (continuous to dashed; add arrow or change to plain; etc). And really that's not much more than a hesitation.

I'll move to 5.71b4 now. But it's a big relief to know that b3 is good, because I was beginning to despair!

Cheers -- George

Bonjour,

Happy new year for all !

A new beta version 5.71b5 is available.

For text objects, I removed the test on their position (in or out the drawing size).

A bug have been fixed when an "other" color is chosen for arc objects.

Thanks.

Hi Eric

Happy New Year!!

I think it would be great if you could also fix this – see video – where the text goes on to one long line if you edit it, returning to the original text box when you finish. It would surely be better if it stayed in the text box when editing instead of shooting off to the right? And you can always adjust the text box with its handles.

Text problem

Bonjour George,

I thought about this problem but couldn't find a solution except to add a variable to the Text objects to determine whether their width had been modified by the user or not.
But that's a significant change.
Then, thinking about it again, I think I've found the solution:
If the text is on a single line before editing, it is edited on a single line and its width changes.
But if it is on multiple lines before editing, its width remains fixed during editing and its height is adjusted.
Now I have to code it...

Thanks.

George,

Can you try the new version b6?

Thanks.

Hi Eric

That seems to have done it! Perfect!!

We get so used to a word processor that it's easy to expect the same in a CAD program, which is somewhat unrealistic of course! But this has improved entering text hugely – in my opinion!

I often include construction or fabrication instructions on many of my drawings, which can run to quite large blocks of text (often needing regular editing…) which perhaps the majority of users may not.

Cheers and many thanks -- George
