RealCADD 5.52b2

Post by Eric Pousse »

Bonjour,

RealCADD 5.52b2 is now available.

The Text tool with spline is now selected by pressing “a” repeatedly.

Activating or deactivating all attractions with 2 x “g” deletes the “alignment” attractions in memory.

Trying out an option to modify the size of the user interface, i.e. the size of dialogs and pallets by modifying the sizes of texts, icons, etc...
BUT the sizes of certain controls (buttons and popup menus, for example) are fixed by the system and cannot be modified. The size of their text is.
Significant variations can therefore lead to bizarre results...
If this option is retained, I think the range of variation will probably be limited to 0.8 to 1.25 x normal sizes.
Currently, there is no limitation and the value entered is not stored when RealCADD quits.
To try this option: RealCADD “Settings” or “Preferences” -> ‘Display’ and change the value of the editable field just below “Tools menu”.

Voilà !

Pallet size

As requested, I've been testing out the variable user interface size – and I quite see that it can only be useful over a small range as the system buttons etc. don't change with the change in text size.

For the machine I use RealCADD on (Apple MacBook Pro 14" with M4 chip) the standard size of the pallets etc. is pretty good – but I found I could use from about 0.9 to 1.2 OK. Any smaller then as mentioned, the buttons start to overlap the text which was a bit annoying! I quite liked the larger pallets (I used 1.1 mostly), especially after an hour or two when my eyes were getting tired!

In guess it all depends on screen size and resolution. So yes – useful within the limits proposed.

gg keystroke

Nice – though just personally I generally set mine to ECIP as I don't draw to a grid. And it seems that T will only make a tangent if P is not present. However if Grid isn't checked in Settings, then G doesn't have anything to snap to. So if T could work even when P is present on the Snap pallet – then it would be really great!

Sometime can the Snap pallet be labeled Snap rather than Untitled ...?

Final thought/request

A wall tool would be nice! I know you can make walls by using the Static Parallels and Option key, but it's a bit tedious.

A good wall tool lets you draw walls at a specified width, from the left, right or centre; it lets you have end caps or not, including at a corner join; it lets you specify the type of join of walls (open or closed cross; open or closed tee); and finally it gives you a repair option if a crossing wall is removed, leaving a gap in the wall.

Actually quite useful for things other than walls!

Cheers –– George

Bonjour George,

The idea to be able to change the size of the UI comes because I use an external screen on my MacBook with a resolution which made the UI a little small.

For gg keystroke, I think that it will be logical if all keys of the snap or attraction pallet work like g.

For wall tool, it is true that some features of RealCADD are not enough visible.

Thanks.
